A record of our adventures between Pipit and her successor...
Welcome to the home page of BetweenBoats.com, a record of our adventures and activities post living aboard our previous yacht, Pipit, a 2003 Bavaria 36, and prior to our next yacht - for those readers who know about such things, the colour scheme of this website hints at one of the optional hull colours of our likely next yacht - makes a change from white dunnit? If you need a further clue, the manufacturer's name begins with 'Benet' and ends with 'eau'...
Also, these pages showcase our ability to produce a fully responsive website, viewable on desktops, tablets & smartphones, so next time you are out for a social evening with friends, you can do the modern thing and keep your head down reading our ramblings on your smartphone without having to actually speak to anyone...
We became liveaboards in April 2010 and spent three years sailing from the UK to our target destination of the Ionian, Greece, where we subsequently spent two seasons sailing this idyllic cruising ground. En route to the Ionian, we lived aboard permanently, over-wintering in marinas in Brittany (La Roche Bernard), Portugal (Lagos) and then Sicily (Marina di Ragusa). The Ionian is very wet during the winters with frequent long spells of very heavy rain and violent thunderstorms so, once we'd reached the Ionian, after each pleasant cruising season, we spent our winters in Greece ashore in a villa with Pipit tucked up safely nearby.
In 2015, we both felt that full-time liveaboard life was no longer for us (you can read about our reasons for this here) so we returned to the UK to more conventional lives based in the heart of the lovely Cotswolds. We haven't 'swallowed the anchor' - we've just taken a big bite of it! As well as continuing to sail in the UK, Greece and possibly elsewhere (the Baltic and the Low Countries perhaps) we also wish to explore more of the diversely beautiful UK plus some of inland Europe around the outside of which we spent 3 years sailing. We also hope to take a travelling holiday to California, where Ann grew up, at some point in the future.
In June 2018, we moved to Cornwall where, after more than a year of planning, we started building our 'dream home' and moved in at the end of June 2019. The house itself is finished bar some internal fittings like a wardrobe interior, storage shelving in cupboards and some new furnishings but the garden has been a work in progress since we moved in. Videos of the house build and garden development can be seen here.
During the five years that we lived aboard and cruised from the UK to Greece, we received emails from people around the world who enjoyed reading our ramblings, some of whom we've remained in regular contact with and who have become new friends. We both enjoy writing and so hope our narratives continue to be entertaining, as well as being a reminder to ourselves of where we've been and what we've done!
Our motto remains the same - 'Carpe Diem In Vino Veritas' - 'Fish of the day in an honest white wine sauce'
